.SH DESCRIPTION
12
This manual page documents briefly the
13
.B ru_tts
14
and
15
.B ru_speak
16
commands.
17
.PP
18
\fBru_tts\fP is a program that takes Russian text in \fBkoi8\-r\fP
19
charset on its standard input and produces digital sound stream in
20
the raw linear signed 8-bit 10 kHz format on the standard output.
21
.PP
22
Symbols \(oq+\(cq and \(oq=\(cq immediately after a vowel in input
23
text are treated as strong and weak stress sign respectively.
24
.PP
25
\fBru_speak\fP is a simple wrapper around \fBru_tts\fP. It takes
26
Russian text on its standard input, convert it into the spoken speech
27
and plays produced sound via \fBplay\fP utility from the \fBsox\fP
28
package. It accepts input text in the current locale's character
29
encoding taking care of proper recoding.
30
.SH OPTIONS
31
Both programs recognize the same set of options that for convenience
32
can be divided onto several groups.
33
.SH SPEECH CONTROL OPTIONS
34
These options affect general speech parameters. The most of them
35
accept numeric value as an argument. All numeric values serve as
36
factors applied to a default level of the corresponding parameter.
37
Thus, they must be positive numbers and the default value is 1.0.
38
Greater value proportionally increases the parameter level,
39
lesser value proportionally decreases it.
40
Reasonable value range for various options is different,
41
but any out of range value will be automatically reduced to the
42
acceptable range.
43
.TP
44
.B \-r value
45
.br
46
Set speech rate factor. Reasonable value range is from 0.2 up to 5.0.
47
.TP
48
.B \-p value
49
.br
50
Set voice pitch factor. Reasonable value range is from 0.5 up to 3.0.
51
.TP
52
.B \-e value
53
.br
54
Set speech emotionality factor. Reasonable value range is from 0.0
55
(absolutely monotone speech without intonations) up to 1.4.
56
.TP
57
.B \-g value
58
.br
59
Set interclause gaps duration factor. If this value is immediately
60
prepended by one of the following punctuations \(oq,\(cq, \(oq.\(cq,
61
\(oq;\(cq, \(oq:\(cq, \(oq?\(cq, \(oq!\(cq, the factor will be applied
62
only to the gaps implied by that punctuation. If the value is
63
prepended by symbol \(oq-\(cq, it will be used for intonational gaps
64
not caused by any punctuation. Otherwise all interclause gaps will be
65
affected. Use this option several times to adjust various gaps. Lower
66
boundary of the reasonable value range is always 0.0, but the upper
67
one greatly depends on the value prepending symbol and actual speech
68
rate.
69
.TP
70
.B \-a
71

72
Use an alternative (female) voice instead of the default one.
73
.SH NUMBERS INTERPRETATION CONTROL OPTIONS
74
By default point and comma inside a number both are interpreted
75
as decimal separator. But this behaviour can be changed.
76
.TP
77
.B \-d.
78
.br
79
Only point should be treated as decimal separator.
80
.TP
81
.B \-d,
82
.br
83
Only comma should be treated as decimal separator.
84
.TP
85
.B \-d\-
86
.br
87
Disable decimal separators treating. In that case integer and
88
fractional parts will be interpreted as two distinct integer numbers.
